There was this whole explosion on my Tumblr dash over what house John fit better, Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. It's an argument I don't really understand, because I can't quite follow the reasoning behind putting him in Hufflepuff personally, but everyone's interpretation is their own, and I won't throw shade on that. Regardless, I think the above line and Mycroft's other line about bravery being the kindest word for stupidity pretty accurately encompass my opinion on the matter.

I think that John would be in Gryffindor because of the fact he craves and actively seeks out adventure, danger and opportunities to be brave, which I don't think a Hufflepuff would do. He does have a lot of Hufflepuff traits though, so it's hard to know for sure. Harry and friends had quite a few Hufflepuff and Hermione was classic Ravenclaw even though she was in Gryffindor so it doesn't help that there was so much bias in the series.
